Mbappe Return: PSG On Track Over Return Of Star Player
After months of transfer sagas, controversies, and much more, Kylian Mbappe has finally been performing week in and week out for Paris Saint-Germain. The transfer window is yet to close, and there may still be a few twists and turns in the Mbappe and PSG saga.
PSG-Mbappe Transfer Drama
Like every other transfer window, French star Kylian Mbappe was heavily linked with Spanish giant Real Madrid this season. Reports from around the world were spreading the news that PSG was trying its best to offload Kylian from the club.
The saga between Les Parisiens and the French star riled up to the point where he was removed from their preseason tour team to Japan and indefinitely from the team. This was after he rejected the world-breaking trade offer from the Saudi Pro League side.
However, Kylian Mbappe and the president of PSG finally came to an agreement, and Kylian ended up extending his contract, which was supposed to end next year. Currently, he is back on the team and has been proving himself as a valuable asset.
Prior to Mbappe’s contract extension, the fear of Paris Saint-Germain was that if their star striker continued to play before the transfer window closed and no new contract was established, they would risk losing their valuable asset (Kylian Mbappe leaving PSG for free).
However, contrary to the club’s interest, Mbappe neither intends to extend his contract nor leave the club. This clash of interests is what led to his exclusion from pre-season matches in Japan and suspension from the squad on the opening game week of Ligue 1.
PSG At The Start Of Ligue 1
With two football superstars, Messi and Neymar, leaving PSG for Inter Miami and Saudi Team Al Hilal, respectively, PSG’s trio was broken, and only Mbappe remains in the team from the famous trio MNM.
On the other hand, Mbappe was also not training with the first team. Mbappe trained with the first team shortly after Neymar left PSG for Al Hilal. Mbappe was not in the PSG squad to face Lorient in the first game of Ligue 1 2023–24.
In the absence of their star player, Enrique’s side remained goalless in their first game of the season. The match ended 0:0, and PSG dropped two points in their very first league game against Lorient.
The Return Of Mbappe
After meeting with Qatari officials and supposedly sorting out the issues with the club, Mbappe was included in the PSG team to face Toulouse in Ligue 1.
PSG vs Toulouse
In the very first game since his return, Kylian Mbappe scored the first goal of the season for Paris Saint-Germain with a penalty kick in the 62nd minute. Later, Toulouse scored an equalizer, and the game ended 1:1, forcing the defending champions to drop two points in the process.
PSG vs Lens
After drawing the first two games of the season, frustration was clearly visible in the PSG squad. However, Kylian Mbappe stepped up in the game for PSG and granted Luis Enrique his first victory at the club with two goals. Lens was handed a 3:0 defeat by Mbappe and co., thanks to a goal from new signing Asensio and two goals from Mbappe.
What’s Next For Mbappe?
The summer transfer window is nearing its end, and we are about to witness many deadline-day transfers. Mbappe’s future at PSG could see further twists and turns in this transfer window.
However, Carlos Ancelotti has clearly stated that the Real Madrid squad is locked in for the season. With this statement from Real Madrid’s coach, it is highly unlikely that Madrid will make a move for Mbappe this summer.
